Background: The pulse wave velocity(PWV) is a risk factor for coronary artery disease. Studies about the relation of PWV with age, obesity, and smoking was performed. However, the relations of the PWV with exercise and stress have not been established in Korea.
Methods: Study subjects were 61 women. The amount of exercise and stress were surveyed and the PWV was measured using an automatic wave form analyzer. Multiple linear regression analysis was used for evaluation of relationship between PWV and exercise and stress. ANCOVA was used to compare the PWV between groups of exercise and stress.
Results: In the multiple linear regression analysis, increased PWV was predicted by decreased amount of exercise(standardized ¥â=-0.384, p=0.002). Mean PWV between groups of exercise significantly had a difference after adjusting for age, BP, lipid profile, fasting glucose, BMI(F=4.925, p=0.012).
Conclusions: The group with more amount of exercise has a better arterial elasticity.
